Tell us about your working life to date… how did you end up here at WCD?
As a more mature career changer, there’s a long road that’s led me to WCD. I originally studied music at university, and I’ve worked a few different jobs in various different industries. I spent a few years working in property lettings and then I decided I wanted to follow one of my passions. In June 2017 I quit my job to work as a resident musician on cruise ships and internationally in luxury hotels. I worked everywhere from Bora Bora to Beijing right up until when COVID hit in 2020 and everyone went into lockdown.
I then started my own business in property management during COVID, which I grew over the next two years until early 2022. During this time I started thinking about where I wanted to be in the future, and what I wanted from my career. In May 2022 I enrolled myself on a Higher National Diploma in Full Stack Software Development, which I studied full-time. It paid off, as WCD brought me on as a Junior Web Developer in October 2022 and I haven’t looked back since!
What website would be on your bucket list to create at some point?
I’m passionate about anything business or music related. It would be amazing to create a website for a popular musician or artist. I would also like to create something that makes an impact on peoples lives. I want to be able to one day contribute something significant to society. Something that helps make the world a better, happier and more connected place. Dream big, why not!
Windows or Mac?
BOTH. I use Mac for everything business. I bought a Mac in college and it’s great for video editing, sound production and web development. It’s super reliable and it never lets me down. But windows is great for gaming. I grew up using windows and it’s a system I still feel more familiar with.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work you will often find me eating an obscene amount of food! I am very much a fan of anything chocolatey or fried. When I’m not eating, I also like to play music. I play guitar, bass and keyboard and I occasionally perform in wedding bands and at private functions in the evenings. I still really enjoy getting out of the country on the weekends and on holidays to see more of the world. I have a lot of Europe that I still want to see!
Favourite sports team/film/band?
I have to say, I’m not a fan of sports… But I do love music and films! My favourite fantasy film is probably Lord of the Rings. My most-watched comedy is likely to be something starring Jim Carey.. Maybe Ace Ventura. I also really like trippy sci-fi films, and anything by Chris Nolan. The Grinch is the best Christmas film of all time. In terms of my musical taste, I grew up listening to blues and Motown and they are possibly my favourite genres. Stevie wonder is one of my favourite artists, but I do also enjoy classic and modern rock! Queen and Foo Fighters are probably my favourite rock bands. Rock on!
